Great picks as always Helen. I'd like to add my voice to the campaign to get Substack to notice agriculture & farming; I would love to know who to contact/target. It's far more important than they realise.

Honestly Cheryl, I feel like Substack hasn’t really listened to anyone who’s campaigned so far, which is why I’ve started putting my energy into building our own community that supports and amplifies each other instead of waiting for them to notice us.

That said, I completely agree with you. Farming and food systems are far more important than they seem to realise, and it would be brilliant to have more voices pushing for proper visibility.

If you want the best steer on who to contact and what’s already been tried, the key campaigners on this have been @Liz Reitzig, @Adam T Kuznia and @Tim Connolly. They’ll be able to tell you where the petition got to and what kind of response, if any, came back from Substack.

@Cheryl Queen of Markets, I second what @Helen Freeman says above. Right now, the focus is on creating our own small(er) subsets of ag-related content on here. My directory is designed to do that both by subject matter and geographically so we can each follow the information we need, and find those local to us who are working on similar goals. If we want to create local community, I believe one of the best ways to do that is with in-person events. That being said, the way our AgStacker community here shares ideas is incredible and deeply inspiring. It’s great to connect with so many of these incredible and thoughtful people.

Thanks Liz the directory is a great idea; I added myself earlier. I’m sure there are far more UK based voices to include.

Fantastic round up as always! I’m hoping I have time to read a lot of these articles in some down time after Christmas.

Thank you for all the hard work you’ve done on all your writing and campaigning this year Helen! You’re doing a brilliant job.

Thank you so much for being part of it, and I’m really glad you’re here.

It means a lot that you’re taking the time to learn and sort through your thoughts, because farming can look simple from the outside but the reality is messy, political, emotional, and often contradictory. The fact you’re approaching it with curiosity and care is exactly what this community needs.

I’m really looking forward to reading what you write next and to learning alongside you.
